Twwiiccceee in one weeeeek! This makes my heart smile and also a wee bit jelly. I am obsessed with birds of prey. I am not sure when it started but I can’t take my eyes off them.

As I was reading and walking at the same time — your comment — I looked up and there was a turkey vulture a stone’s throw away!

I got a couple of pictures. I’ll forward them on to you!

From what you just wrote I’ll guess you have kept your eyes on Flaco. The eagle-owl that escaped cramped quarters in a Bronx zoo and now lives free in Central Park. I follow @above 96th on Twitter. She captures shots of him being the best eagle-owl he can be! And recently a Kestrel.

Sooo... more than one owl is a “parliament.” ☑️ Once inspired, the goal of art play was quickly determined and executed deftly. The black pupils define this avian miracle as a nocturnal species. Great Horned Owl I’ll guess.

Barred owls brazenly occupy branches of trees behind our home, occasionally blasting their cackles and hoots and hollers! Yet they can be prey for Great Horned Owls! 😳

Much in character, Tal celebrates a perfect coincidence, Nia quickly rounds up the gear for art play as Cal ponders it all. Done in perfect harmony.

Now I’ll pretend I’m the wise man Pythagoras described...

Both times the great horned was in my sights midday with blue jays — harassing? I shall visit again this week to see what I can see.

Same day as the second sighting! An off leash sniffing Henny was within 50 feet of a fawn who also has its head tucked into the thicket. I spied the potential for disaster and was able to get Hen leashed which called the fawn’s attention. It ran away and much to Hen’s dismay… She couldn’t chase.

As a practitioner of insanity (doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result) I usually fail to take a leash for our neighborhood walks. Izzie adores getting an empty plastic container. A kid on Christmas morning? She chomps hard enough to make them crackle and crunch, so that’s my term for that type of toy. If she has one along on our walks, seeing a neighbor we know prompts Izzie to bound over, crackle-crunch in mouth, and extend her head to that person. “See? This is my wonderful new c-c. You can throw it!” She acts connecticated to our neighbors. 😊

What if Izzie knows something we humans sometimes forget?

She IS connected to your neighbors… whether they like it or not. 🤷‍♀️

She has become vigilant, alerting us to cars not from our neighborhood, or larger groups of folks that are a mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces. She’s a sentry for the collective good of the hood! She avoids approaching people we don’t know on our walks. Do you want to see some pictures of my dog?! As opposed to grandchild... 🙃
