Two messages I took from your post are perseverance, and live in the present moment. Rehashing a lament about the first bulb not blooming does naught to make it bloom. (Long since compost?) Renewing your efforts attained the desired outcome.

One year I purchased daffodil and tulip bulbs in fall at the garden center. I gave them a false winter in the basement refrigerator. In late winter/very early spring I “planted” them in a variety of glass containers on top of pebbles.watering and indoor heating convinced them to grow and flower. It was a really fun experiment!
