I have a feeling Laura didn’t give a second thought to Zoom-Dancing or Hula-Hooping on camera. Nia’s shudder, as she thought about dancing online, reminded me of myself. “I’ll make a fool of myself! I’ll step on her feet! There’s no way I can dance fast! If I dance slow, our bodies might touch!”
Recalling those and many other inhibitions, I was struck by the difference between feeling like I was rehearsing for a show, and dancing? Yes, just dancing. Feeling the rhythms. Flowing with the music. Maybe even bodies touching?🤷🏽 Instead of try outs for “Strictly Ballroom!”
How easy to overthink things! In some cases, thought isn’t required.
So remind Nia the Zoom cam can be shuttered. Or perhaps she could wear a mask or a colorful scarf to shield her eyes. Dance by feeling the movement! Heck! Maybe let Thalia guide her through some moves! 😬
What’s the worst that could happen? Nia could become a 2-hoop Hula Hooper! I think she’d find the geometry of circles soothing. 🤔😬
Laura has always had a beautiful, free, and open spirit. She had leukemia and beat it! She continued on in her job for a couple of years and then hit the road. She’s always been an inspiration for me!
That makes me remember “walking in another person’s shoes.” Seeing you both tonight, I saw how each of you came through your medical experiences very much alive. Joy worn gratefully on your faces. Kudos!
Here’s another possibility: I mis-read! 😁 After not sleeping the entire night before, yesterday was “rough around the edges” in many respects. I don’t know the time difference between CST and Australian time zones, but I was enjoying imagining that it was the middle of the night for Elaine! That there had been some very long distance arm wrestling over who would get “the night shift,” and that Elaine had lost.
Hmmm, I like Eleanor Wood's quote better than George Elliot's. It's a bit late for me to get my submarine qualifications (the Navy doesn't let 65-year-olds back in, for one thing), but "getting used to what we didn't expect" sums up my adult life nicely, from getting disqualified from subs after being in a plane crash to getting proposed to by my girlfriend on my way to my next duty station to finding the executive assistant I had gotten chummy with in my new job was neither married nor had kids. 😁

Who is A.G.?
Good question! 😉
Andreas Googelschweimer? 😉

Ballroom dancing looks fun, doesn’t it?
None of my muses dig maths.

Oops! Somehow I’ve misled? Last night’s presentation was with my friend Elaine from Rochester MN.
Laura lives in Australia now!

I believe we all won.

Did you save the best for last? 😉
