To the words "be kind" my immediate appendage was "to yourself". Why was it a necessary add? As only a mind full of itself could ask what is the opposite of kindness? Is it unkindness? Or is it the "absence" of kindness"? Does it make a difference to understand? Prompted by this post I responded to an email from a friend by asking "are you being kind to yourself?" Was the question "kind" ?

I love your questions! Thank you!

I’ve heard it said that what happens outside of us is a manifestation of what is happening inside of us.

I think many of us do not know how to be kind to ourselves. We feel like we don’t “measure up” somehow and therefore we beat ourselves up… then take it to the streets.

I DO think your question was kind.

How was it received?

A friend quipped on our rote/empty exchange of greetings. Person 1: “How are you?” Person 2: “Fine.”

Person 1, again: “Tell your face that!”

Lady MacBeth stated, “Your face, my thane, is a book where men may read strange matters.”

Together I see a lesson in the importance of being grounded, centered, to the best of our ability.
