As a veteran of years in the rooms of AA, I was exposed to an advisory bit of wisdom: “We pause when agitated or doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action.” The implied source for an answer was a higher power. And suggested self sufficiency was inadvisable. (My best thinking got me here)
On the snack topic, AA also saw their value: keep hard candy with you at all times or chocolate when feasible. That provided an alternate way of responding to an urge to drink. With instant effect.
All of which is to say, “Thank you for sharing your situation, and a reminder of my 24+ years without alcohol.”
What I noticed today was high level of energy/excitement around all of the potential projects I'm interested in -- agitated... or more like giddy bewilderment. 😂 I really appreciate, "We pause when agitated or doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action."
Substitute candy for alcohol -- walking instead of binge munching... swap a better habit for a bad one with awareness?
The recovery program I spoke of mentions taking a “spot check inventory.” Maybe a different label for being present? Mindfulness? Awareness? It’s all good. 3mm rocks!
Delicious food is one of my greatest joys! I remember during chemo how food became… meh!
I told myself once my taste was back (and it is!) that I’d slow down and be more mindful when eating. Sometimes I manage slow savoring, and sometimes I find myself stuffing without stopping. Usually there is some emotion or avoidance behind that…
T-shirt: "God has a purpose for everyone. It could be that your purpose is to serve as a warning example for others..." 😁
Ben & Jerry still make Chubby Hubby? Pretzels + ice cream?
Wait, why am I asking you? Hold on...

The t-shirt: 😍
Not just pretzels and vanilla ice cream… MALT vanilla ice cream and fudge covered pretzels! I bet God serves it in heaven. 👍🏻
Treats in moderation, yes!
Treats because I’m avoiding feelings and/or taking action, no!
A walk is a much healthier way to settle the monkeys jumping in my head.

Your welcome! Celebrating 24+ years! 🎉

I’m still on a #Gratitude high from yesterday... I may never come down! 😊
32 for me Gary! One day at a time... Congratulations!
You mean you can do something else? Other than eat? Hmmmm... as I crumble the pretzels on my vanilla ice cream... it’s something to ponder.
