My father agreed to let me try out for a spot to travel with the Wisconsin Youth Chorale when I was a freshman in high school. I think they accepted all “try-era”. 😂
I got to go to Europe the following summer. I often think of how immature I was to experience such a trip… and yet it left me with life-long feelings, memories, and foundations.
You're full of surprises and talents, Gail! I also sang in my high school chorus but the furthest I got to travel was Miami...Ohio. I hope your next project includes our being able to hear you warble!
🤣 No warbling from me! Eeek! Between my audition and the start of rehearsals my voice started changing. They moved me from soprano to the alto section where I really struggled to harmonize when I wasn’t singing familiar parts. To be honest… I felt like I was terrible and didn’t belong.
🤷♀️ Life.
Miami Ohio sounds lovely!
All this music talk though reminds me that my neighbor teaches piano. When I was a kid, I asked for a piano every Christmas. Santa couldn’t (or knew better?) swing it.
What if… I take a few lessons now? Maybe I’ll ask for them as a Christmas gift!
In high school I made my way to county band 2 years and county chorus my senior year, but there was little competition. Warm bodies mostly.
Our high school choral instructor taught us pieces from The Fantastics and Hava Nagila, much to the bafflement of a mostly blue collar audience. That time opened my ears, and mind, to an entirely new view of music!
A note from LoveLetterist:
I led an expedition into the basement where I unearthed a two-pocket paper folder filled with pristine sheet music.
A program therein announces: European Concert Tour June 30 - July 14, 1983.
I'm simply amazed that I held onto this long-ignored bounty for over 40 years.
Me... who ruthlessly tosses the kid's preschool artwork into the dumpster!
The story I'm telling myself is... This music staked a claim and held tight in my life for a reason.
Now... What is that reason?
Let us see what happens next.
🤔
Music you played as youth?

Occurrences of that nature in our youth leave lasting impressions.
Yes!
I’m quite fascinated by the music we sang and the places we sang it!

They say music enhances creativity, so why not? I imagine the girls will have lots to say about it!
My muses are already constructing a tiny house with the possibilities. 😂

Thanks for bumping that neuron!
THAT sounds pretty cool! 💚
Today’s LoveLetter is as sweet as the day is long. Clever dialog. (Reminiscent of my sentimental jukebox ways)
Last, delighted to learn of your musical adventure in Europe 40 years ago. Congratulations!
Thank you for you appreciation.
And now I have what feels like a solid idea for my next project. Let’s see if it is sticky! 📼 This is an emoji for tape?
