Once upon a time Loveletterist relied on others to tell her how to think, be, and do.

Then a friend told her that to be of any use to others, she needed to lead herself first.

Doing so is painting a colorful life on the canvas.

John Boyd, USAF, must have regarded some things as gospel or dogma... to become a Lt. Colonel. 😉 IMHO, we are all living exceptions to absolutes.

BTW, that’s a fine pair of turtles you drew. Is the one that appears “albino” just awaiting its chance to shine? Not unlike many of we humans. Perhaps it needs to turn off dogma and gospel? I somehow imagine little of either pervading the Boenning/Muse studio these days?☺️ Something dredged up from the swamp?

Do I have to keep on talking till I can’t go on?”

Do you think we can be part of rigid/dogmatic systems and still hold our wild souls apart to remain true to ourselves?

I’m thinking of Captain Winters from Band of Brothers calling off the last patrol in direct disobedience to an order. Anthony De Mello and Richard Rohr seemed to be able to disagree with Catholic dogma and still maintain standing within the church?

Today’s post can be looked at by me… and any reader with differing perspectives.

When I was a “yes” girl… where was my responsibility for my life. Instead of a creator, I was one of those life happened to. 🤷‍♀️

Which is the very reason I agree with John Boyd in his sentiment of not wanting to be a guru.

We stand alone together?

Our work in this life is to dance to the drum of our maker? You really have to turn inward to allow that to happen. I can share what I see/experience, but it is up to you to build your life?

Men have been known to say, “That’s interesting,” which conveys almost nothing. To avoid engagement? To avoid risk from stating their actual belief or feeling? We used to call it “stickin’ your neck out.” Avoiding authenticity?

From that frame of reference I’d offer this comment on your approach: “Catch a wave and you’re sittin’ on top of the world.”

Beach Boys, from the early 60’s. 🏄‍♀️

I had a “that’s interesting” phase — still do sometimes. It gives me time to pause — to let the muses hash whatever it is out before adding an opinion in haste — that cannot be swallowed back. I’m all for saying, “Oops! I made a mistake!”, but I don’t aspire to make it a habit.

I’m squarely in the belief that there’s a mystery to this gift we call life. As best I know, nobody has figured it out. Lots of great minds have come to recognize that the more they learn, the less they know. 🤷‍♀️ surely keeps a person humble!

Of course. A reasoned approach and not a one size fits all response. When I managed light commercial and custom home projects, I was surprised by how freeing it was to tell an owner, “I don’t know the answer. I’ll research this and report back tomorrow.” No spontaneous bs to appear omniscient. In the process I learned more.

I see you as being well prepared, with little occasion to say, “Oops!” Holding oneself to such standards has lots of upsides. Today, a student deciding to use ChatGPT to write a report or term paper is hard for me to see the upside.

Old Schoolers always welcome! 😊
