That video is a riot! I'm a little of both, depending on the circumstances. What about you, Gail?

Yes! Depending on the circumstances! Well said!

It reminds me of transplanting seedlings into a pot that allows for growth, but doesn’t overwhelm. 🌱

Do you know about the orchid/dandelion theory of child personality development?

I think I’ve seen something about that…

Kids that have lots of challenges are tasked to develop lots of coping skills.

Kids that have it easy are more like orchids? Less able to handle stressors and environmental changes?

It's actually more that biologically, some kids (orchids) tend to be sensitive, while others (dandelions) tend to be resilient and adaptive. The research showed that in the right conditions, orchid children do better than their hardier counterparts across a variety of cognitive, academic, and health measures. The point is not to compare children, but to show that children who in some cultures make be considered "weak," have tremendous gifts. I wrote a blog about it. https://karendebonis.com/orchid-child/

This drawing definitely would make a lovely fall greeting card. I would buy a set for certain. I love it so much. I am a little bit adventure and a little bit sit and watch.

It is the time of year when “the boys of summer” fall into World Series contention! And you threw a beautiful curveball today!

CHILI SEASON. I was expecting an old family favorite recipe?! Jumping to conclusions while sidestepping the present... (white chicken chili has become my favorite). And your drawing just popped out at me. Splendid!

On change, when I moved to Tallahassee in 1971, from PA, I was so glad for the the first fall day of somewhat cool weather. Off to classes wearing Eddie Bauer shorts and a thin, short sleeved shirt, I was dumbfounded by students wearing heavy winter coats! South Florida students unaccustomed to the chill. I now feel like those students when we have our winter weather!

I still embrace the changes of season. Our doodle dog becomes infused with energy when cool days return. Holidays forthcoming I eagerly anticipate. Hallowe’en at my granddaughter’s (and her parents) home. Thanksgiving with Beth’s family. Christmas still undecided?

I suppose, for you, putting the paddle board in mothballs is in order. And before long, “Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes.” May joy abound!

My chili recipe is a closely guarded secret because like Heraclitus’ river, it’s ever changing. 😂 It’s even secret from me!

Your experience of your Florida weather shift… and how you ‘weathered’ in contrast to the locals is an excellent reminder as to how accustomed we become to our environments.

Ahhh! We are charging into a string of holiday celebrations. Tonight with friends we’re going on a lit Hallow walk held by the Phantom Lake YMCA camp. 👻

I kept the kid’s outgrown snowboard and boots. They fit me perfectly. Who knows what the season will bring?

Does your granddaughter have a costume yet?

Ah, sounds like my chili recipe!

Which is really more a process.

The process being: look through the pantry, fridge, and freezer to see what looks good.

Deb long ago gave up trying to predict what she'll taste when it's supper time. ⁉️

The picture is awesome. You really nailed the cool weather feel. I enjoy some change because otherwise I get bored. But as for adventure, part of me says sure but because of my anxiety, most of me says I don't think so.

T-shirt: “LIFE IS SOUP and I’m a fork” 😁

Although the way I make soup (more "stew," really) a fork is 95-98% effective.

Alas, the world does not always match my methods. 😞
