The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.
“Well, I,” Calliope offers, “Let’s travel to the Naval Air Museum in the Florida panhandle! They have an entire B-17 suspended from their ceiling.” (Not unlike the plane in today’s art creation)
I would add that I knew the father of one long time customer who flew B-17’s in WW II. He returned from Europe almost totally deaf. No hearing protection was provided and the cockpit sat between the two inboard engines. I never heard a word of complaint. (not the style of the “Greatest Generation”) They heeded the call to service realizing the threat they would face had nothing to do with hearing loss. Rather to defeat the Axis powers and ensure freedom.
He would encourage you to pay a visit to see what our government has produced to provide for flight… and freedom.
It’s simply a coincidence I chose a destination not all that far from my home. With Spring rapidly returning here I’d expect Tal to shout, “We’re not in Winter, er, Wisconsin, any more!”
When Nathaniel was 3, my sister and I traveled to Washington DC with my dad. Somewhere I have a photo of my dad with arms outstretched like an airplane -- with a real plane --suspended behind him. Was it Wilbur and Orville's creation? 🤔 Not sure. This was in one of the Smithsonian buildings.
I saw a photo yesterday of young WWII soldiers en route to a French beach on D-Day. So young. So... selfless? Did you ever hear the Toby Keith song with a lyric about his father who served and lost his right eye? Never complained.
Ever since I was 8 year old, listening to the bandstand speeches celebrating our nation's bicentennial, I have felt much gratitude for the opportunity and freedom afforded in the land of my birth.
Wonder what might come out of readers if it's Tal's line I challenge them to create?! 😂
P.S. If you are here, consider yourself involved.
What might Calliope do/say?
Tell me and I forget; teach me and I may remember; involve me and I learn.
A note from LoveLetterist:
What happens when
what you love
becomes what you do?

“Well…I,” Calliope retorts, “find defying gravity is a matter of choice…or possibly perspective.”
ooooh! Now I'm thinking of the Wicked soundtrack. Some really great songs on there!
It’s pure joy. It’s what life is meant to be.
Thank you Sharon for being here!
