grateful and growing
Thalia shook her shakes and flicked her fingers. “Preeeehhhhhsent — We got ahhh preeeeeehhhhhhsent!”
“Excellent customer care.” The wheels in Nia’s head spun ‘round and ‘round.
“How generous of Spotify to send us a year-in-review gift…” Calliope read their musical-listener-package aloud, “The Time Traveler… You’re like a musical time traveler, a sonic historian. You seek out music that’s new to you, regardless of whether it’s new to the rest of the world… E-T-V-U… Exploration, Timelessness, Variety, Uniqueness. Hmmmm… This is really helpful! The description extends beyond our musical taste… It sums up the essence of our love letters!”
Words from Typist:
It has come to my attention that the muse’s personalities can be a little confusing to some — especially new readers? You might have noticed that I’ve started sharing their dialogue blocks in the same order every day: Thalia 1st, Urania 2nd, Calliope 3rd.
I’ve also tried to give them their own distinct voices:
Thalia — sing/song with lots of exclamation points and em (—) dashes
Urania — short and pithy
Calliope — slow, contemplative, thoughtful, and ellipses (…)
I intend to review the 3musesmerge About page, offering clear character outlines there. That said, from my personal Substack reader behavior, I’m aware some of us never visit the About pages.
My highest goal with 3mm is to be of service to its readers. I welcome your thoughts in comments and/or email replies. I know my 3mm family will be kind and thoughtful with constructive comments. Thanks for being YOU!
I offer three questions for your consideration:
Are the muse’s personalities clear to you? (yes/no)
Do you find their order of appearance, speech cues, and descriptions of their actions helpful? (yes/no — examples?)
Do you have any growth suggestions for us? (long answer — How can we do better? Can you offer examples of reference… material from other sources?)
My fellow timeless explorers, appreciators of variety and uniqueness, I am so grateful you are here. ❤️💜💚
You might recall I participated in an Akimbo Creative’s workshop a couple of years ago? Scott Perry, who was the head coach, is looking to offer a 7-minute, 3-step approach for making better decisions based on a Marcus Aurelius quote about the three disciplines of stoicism. FREE!!! I’ve raised my hand to participate. You can give Scott a 🖐🏻 raised hand here if you’re interested in making better decisions.
