Counting appendages… Hmmm 🤔 I wonder how many other things we can count? My friend from Sesame Street says there is no limit… Ha, ha! 🧛🏻‍♂️

Unclouded indeed! All seemingly clear eyed, too. I have to confess that all my daisies are as dry as popcorn! Not a good sign for this face for some time.

It’s alright if you pass my cell # to Nia for a good pep talk. I came in from watering our yard and feel nearly as wilted as the plants I was watering. I’ve become the captive of a chair but more remains outdoors.

On the subject of memory limitations, some would argue the memories are still intact. It’s retrieval that declines. In cases of dementia we often read of the older person’s accurate recall of past events when they can’t remember what they had for breakfast. That is a storage problem!

“Limitless” is a movie that featured an experimental drug to imbue the person with, well, limitless mental powers. In the movie it wasn’t all just peaches and cream. If I read today that a pharmaceutical giant is ready to begin clinical trials with such a drug I’d not be surprised?🤷🏽

So, rev up your brains! Think of all the good stuff you might find! 🤔

Artistic license on the dew… pretty dry here as well although, Henny and I hit the dog park at 5:30 this morning and we met Margot and Flirt -two small, young, enthusiastic cocker spaniels (I think?). Both were soaked from running through tall grass. We had a significant cool down overnight… producing dew?

Neuroscience is fascinating. I’ve picked up bits and pieces/odds and ends from reading non-fiction. Come to think of it… bits and pieces/odds and ends is a theme — too curious to focus on any one thing. 🤔

I’ve read some observations about “witness accounts” and how often witnesses get the facts wrong… not with any I’ll intent — our brains can often color in lines that aren’t there or miss ones that are?

There is indeed so much information out there! Keep reading or stop reading? In my “think I’ll be a shrink” life, I wrote a term paper on our brain’s visual functioning after various traumas.

Think of our visual field as represented by a circle, divided equally by horizontal and vertical lines. Each quarter of the field called a quadrant. We can lose an entire quadrant and not be aware of the loss! Information from each eye goes to both sides of our brain. And our brains love to “fill in the blanks.” I sometimes joke that if I don’t know the right answer, I make one up! A victim of my brain?🙃

And therefore, I find great comfort in recognizing I am often wrong, everything can be this-everything can be that.

My oft repeated message that I live from Pope Francis… Life is a beautiful mystery to be contemplated with gladness and joy. 💜

Here’s an odd situation. I can’t “like” your comment, but I can comment? As I often do just that, I’ll offer that I find your life view kind, gentle, joyful, and uplifting.

You bet! Can you imagine wildlife having such trust in a human?

In Parks or similar areas where hunting is verboten, the animals behave in remarkably different ways. Not afraid of humans. They lack a learning history of the dangers we can pose to them. Trust?

Hmmmm… another example/observation that environment has an impact on behavior. Yes!

Interestingly, although I won’t go into detail, I am currently enjoying an opportunity to watch my trust level as I engage in a situation where I had a past “bad” experience. What a gift it is to examine the “then” and to recognize then isn’t “now”. An opportunity to try again, differently perhaps… wiser. I can choose love over fear.

An “axiom” from a course in social psychology stated, “The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.” Today I’m more inclined to agree, “If nothing changes, nothing changes.” And that’s what I hear in your remark!

I can’t pinpoint when self-awareness took root inside of me, but there are some pivotal recognitions that fueled my practice so that I could continue to grow an expand my personhood/soul. One that springs to mind is a sullenness I carried on July 4 — every year for decades. It seemed the “right” thing to do as it was the anniversary of my mother’s death.

Then one year with a young child of my own, the mood and teary eyes at the fireworks seemed oddly out of place. Why on earth was I living in the past?

Thanks for our conversations Gary!!!

Glad you got a peak, too! Some mornings, as if by accident (tripping over a loose brick in the sidewalk), I rummage around on YouTube. Not the rehash of who said what yesterday, nor the woman who teaches communication with the departed souls. She seems sincere if not a little over caffeinated.

Instead, short offerings like this morning’s that at least 3 people have now seen. But I bear no I’ll intent toward Gail if perhaps one of those bees comes with an effective pain administering device! If such an encounter comes my way, I assume something of a meditative, empty (don’t go there, Jack🙃) mind. Just an unflinching observer. Welcoming this sentient being into my day. My space. Few arguments have occurred over the years...

Please! No wellness checks needed.
