Serenity’s Scribe 📝 was quite busy today…

Inspired by Typist’s post, he wrote a lengthy article for another community (in collaboration with Serenity) with this segment below at the end as an unanticipated surprise for his readers…

We’re not sure who enjoys storytelling more…

My other audience has no inkling of who Jim and his wife might be because there is no context beyond the two characters, “Jim and his wife.”

In 1970, Jim and his wife were having an amorous conversation when she held up her hand in the STOP position (ladies and gentlemen, you both know what I’m talking about) and indicated she had a surprise to share.

Jim stopped in his tracks with a quizzical look on his face, and the wry smile from his wife told him everything he needed to know without her ever having to say a word… It only required a nod from her as Jim embraced her with the kind of hug that only comes when the happy words, I’m pregnant, are shared…

I have no idea what happened immediately after that moment, and frankly, it’s none of our business… What I do know, though, is what happened later that night for both Jim and his wife.

Jim’s wife submitted a recipe in a Pillsbury baking competition, and Jim sat down and drafted a beautiful poem to honor the life-changing news!

He also engaged in some deep reflection about the importance of time, love, and life itself…

The poem completely captured the essence of the moment. To say it was beautiful is an absolute understatement. Eventually, the poem would go on to gain International Notoriety, but unfortunately, Jim would never know just how popular the poem he wrote that night would become, and he wouldn’t get to experience all of the things a proud father hopes to experience either. Jim tragically died in a plane crash in 1973, and his poem didn’t reach its full potential until 14 weeks after his tragic death…

Why share such a story?

Two reasons!

First, there are no guarantees. Life is both precious and unpredictable!

I work in the cancer space, and I can’t begin to tell you how many tragic stories, just like this one, I have personally experienced, first as an oncology and hospice nurse, and then as a volunteer cancer support group facilitator over the past 25 years plus…

That’s the WHY!

Second, If we follow our dreams, develop sound plans, and work steadily and consistently toward their achievement, we might accomplish something both intentionally and purposefully that will leave the planet a better place for the next generation.

Your dream doesn’t have to be as big as a dinosaur, although that’s a pretty cool idea, too, if you ask me.

It could be as simple as a poem, or a few words of advice, or encouragement that has someone go on to do, be, or become something they otherwise wouldn’t have, without you and the YOUnique gift only YOU can bring to the world…

Here’s a link to the Poem:

I have as yet been unable to verify another element to this story that if true, adds a whole other unfortunate fated twist… Stay tuned for an update… 😲

Thank you for sharing the song/poem Bobby/Serenity. I am amazed at the connections that have come from my husband suggesting, and my saying yes, to attending Friday’s performance.

AJ and his music are collateral beauty to his life which has been filled with loss.

Waiting patiently to hear if there is more to the story…

From Sharon first- You went to see the 50th anniversary Croce Sings Croce? I just looked up that and he's playing May 2 in Peekskill at the Paramount- last time I was there I saw Keith Urban so it's been a minute. It's a great venue. I loved Jim Croce!

Terpsi’s turn- she's making me do chores before we can play. She keeps saying “We get to do chores” before we play. I am not buying into it. We have new paints to try out! And I need a new 👗. She worked on a blanket yesterday and we didn't 🎨. I danced while she did it. Today we are going to set up the record player in the studio! She says there are Jim Croce albums packed away!

I totally recommend the show if you’re interested and able. The music is amazing. AJ’s talent is really something to see. And, in addition to the music, he’s a super storyteller.

I hear you about the chores! Thalia currently is winning the arm wrestle in favor of play. We are working on the images for book 5. They are coming together nicely!

Now I’m going to read about that beautiful blanket over on you Substack. :)
