Thalia closes her eyes and feels wind rush through her hair. “Wooooo-hooooooooooo! I luuuuuuuhv a motor!”
Calliope clutches her seat with both hands.
Nią contemplates Tal’s need-for-speed juxtaposed with Cal’s plodding pace. “There is time —” she shrugs, “for fast and slow. It is the quality of the build that determines how far — and how fast — we go?”
You are more likely to learn something by finding surprises in your own behavior than by hearing surprising facts about people in general.

Note from Loveletterist:
Yesterday I thoroughly enjoyed a family outing to a local lake without my paddle.
In myself I observed solid trust of a kid who has been building his boating skills -- piece by piece -- step by step -- trials, errors, successes -- over the course of many years.
What fun! To see my growth entwined with another.
I’m on Tal’s team. A thrill seeker? Quite certain - when the fair set up each fall (while in my 50’s) I looked for the rides where everyone was screaming! Accompanying friends had no interest...
Somehow I remember an exchange that included the LUND brand of bass boats. The single Mercury engine made me smile. In this age of “more is more” it’s not uncommon to see a bass boat sporting twin Yamaha 150’s around here. 🤷🏽
Nia’s metaphor about “the quality of the build determines how far - and how fast - we go” surely applied to yesterday’s outing. And seemed to embrace other figurative “builds.” 3MM being just one example. Or the lives we strive for in our growth?
Always a lover of metaphors. 😁
