A note from LoveLetterist:

On my morning treasure hunt through my inbox, I came across this brilliant analysis of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

My biggest take-away was the reminder that we are creating our lives, individually and collectively.

Why do we expend so much energy railing against what we do not like?

Instead of building better?

Twain remarked to the effect that a sign of success is when the first line gets the reader to read the next line. And I did! Both yours and the blog by WeirdoPoetry guy. 😊 Fascinating material all the way around!

Thanks.

I am generally quite mindful about those first sentences.

Your LoveLetter today and Dale Carnegie’s quote brought to mind an Elvis Presley lyric: (written by Joe South)

“And before you abuse, criticize, and accuse,

Just walk a mile in my shoes.”

I’m curious about “staying two steps ahead.” I’ve read that we’ll never get there as we live in the now.

And I implore you, don’t pull a Mary Oliver on us! Of course if you duplicate her move, you’ll be here in sunny Florida. Please bring along some of your tools of the trade. Muses, Henny, and of course your watercolor stuff. The kid could come for visits while competing in tournaments...😁

🤔 wow! What a kerfuffle ensued at your questioning of our “two steps ahead”! What we were thinking at the time of writing (I think)was that we try really hard not to get caught by negative thought patterns. 🤷‍♀️

Please explain “pull a Mary Oliver”?

I think Bobby K mentioned her recently. She was a powerhouse writer and grew up in the vicinity of Boston. One day she just vanished. To Florida. And apparently stopped being a writer! From of her works I sampled showed she was a serious minded writer/poet.

Vanished… and stopped writing?

I wonder why?

She is much admired and quoted.
