Tal rubs furred ears. “Burrrrrth-day comin’ up Henny girl! You’re gonna be four!”
“Only took three and a half years to build trust.” Nia raises her brows and clears her throat. “Glad we finally managed it.”
“Henny surely came to us with a different personality than Mara…” The fourleg allows Cal to scratch her belly. “She’s taught us a thing… or ninety-nine… and given us a run for our money. I sense we’re settling in though… A time for peace.”
The trio laces their fingers, savoring their progress.
Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come.

I have a friend who says, “Don’t give up five minutes before the miracle!” For me the Henrietta progression has served as a lesson in accepting differences, examining expectations, and celebrating the uniqueness of each other.
Although I miss Mara (a dog I only met through your words, Gail) I find Henny has grown on me. Probably as she has grown on you and your words show your ever-increasing love for her. 💚
