“Jiminy Cricket!” Calliope grumbled as she drew a line through fuschia and corrected the spelling to fuchsia. “We never spell that color word right!” “Ummm…” Thalia looked at today’s love letter photo. “I think that’s a grasshopper, not a cricket.” “You say bug… I curse insect.” Calliope giggled. “At least we had an inkling to look up and correct fuchsia. Typist’s friend won’t mind the cross-out-amendment in our thank you note.”
Last week I was bragging to the boys that I saved Jiminy Cricket from drowning in our swimming pool. He came and dried off by me while I sat outside. I decided to snap a photo for the memory book. I was excitedly sharing the photo of one of my favorite insect celebrities only to have my boys burst my bubble and declare it to be a grasshopper not a cricket. Oh how I loved Jiminy Cricket. "I play safe for you and me 'cause I'm no fool."
