I calculated how many stairs I went up about ten years ago when our basement flooded, carrying a bucket of water each time, and it came to more than three climbs up the Washington Monument. I think yours is more. No bucket, though. 😁 (And yes, we invested in sump pumps. Actually TWO pumps, because even when you test periodically, when are you most likely to find out about a pump failure? 🌊💦)

A popular constellation had one pump powered by house current, the second by a marine-type battery maintained on a trickle charger. One flooded basement is enough for most folks! 🙂

We have both pumps off house current — but house current is backed up by a whole-house generator off natural gas. 🤞
