Notes from Loveletterist:

I enjoyed dinner out last night.

I went all in with a chicken, bacon, jalepeño, saucy panini and fries.

Something like that is an occasional treat.

Before I went to bed, my body was kinda growling at my choices.

I shrugged and told it to chill out.

We can have a little fun sometimes.

Which reminds me of a conversation I'm in over on LinkedIn. A meme about healthcare/big Pharma infers the systems are designed to keep us sick for profit's sake.

hmmmm...

There was a time when I would have been in agreement like white on rice.

After experiencing cancer, my perspective has shifted tremendously from one of suspicious judgement to, "How might I play a role in making systems better?"

I have much gratitude for the scientists, manufacturers, doctors, and nurses who worked to save my life.

I asked the meme's poster what responsibility we have as consumers to make lifestyle choices that might help us from such dependence on pharmaceuticals. I'm waiting for a response.

And... in one more 'I changed my mind' -- I might start dropping more links (breadcrumbs) into our love letters. I hope sharing resources enhances your experience with the muses. You are smart and motivated group of learners. I suspect if you have time for them, the breadcrumbs will be tasty.

I haven’t the slightest doubt in my mind! (About the bread crumbs; seems like I’m having them almost every day?) And they are tasty indeed! Some very energetic. Some thought provoking. Some with wry humor.)

My only fear is that one day a crafty bird will snatch the one with “The answer to the Universe!) Now we’ll have to start binge watching Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy for the answer. 😊

Hint: 42 is the answer. It turns out that 42 is in the formula for the rate of expansion of the galaxy and some other math/science formulae. 🤷🏽 In my 30’s when HGTTG was popular, the dialog of the episodes was clever and entertaining.

I read the synopsis on Wikipedia. The story felt reminiscent of Vonnegut’s Siren of Titan.

I’m really challenged to find relationship with such science fiction stories. 🤔

Yes, and. I agree that modern medicine has to deliver cures for grace illnesses. My rub has been, and still is, the lack of emphasis on wellness and prevention. Like the person on LinkedIn, I see that preventing illness and promoting wellness requires a major shift, and involves dietary choices and exercise/activities that can’t be patented. Rather, an educational mission. In high school a program promoted by President Kennedy established fitness goals that were used in PE classes. Long ago and far away. 🤷🏽

What is a grace illness?

When I was a young whippersnapper with my first health insurance card I had a physical. My insurance (postal carriers? One of a myriad of choices offered by my employer… the US government) didn’t pay a cent toward the visit. I was annoyed and inspired to write a letter asking, “Why don’t you support preventative care?”

No reply.

There is a connection here between societal and personal responsibility and I am 100% challenged to know how to make one support the other.

And so I do what I feel is my strength… write a little ditty that I hope will get people thinking. 🤷‍♀️

“grave” I didn’t tap the 3 dots at the right time I guess. 🤷🏽

Thank you for joining me in typo 101. It’s lonely there when I’m the only one.

You could have made something up and I would have stepped right along! 😁

Long ago that was my MO. I’d reel in some outlandish answer that in a way belittled the questioner or led to embarrassment if they repeated my nonsense. More than once that was the outcome because of my confident, dead-pan delivery.

Cruelty.
