Let me explain... I tried to free-hand the logo from Born Free Newsletter so that I could use it for the podcast. (for unknown reasons, the image I purchased years ago will not migrate from my old Samsung to my new-ish Mac -- likely operator ignorance)
I say to myself -- "Self, we'll just draw it!"
I couldn't pull it off to my satisfaction, so I pulled out my watercolors and selected one bird from the BFN image to draw. I like how it turned out! Not perfect... but nothing about me, or what I create, is. 😂
From the beginning I leaned toward creative non-fiction over fiction-fiction. I just can't seem to pull my truth from the story?
What do you think of this quote from Michael Moorcock?
"I seem to move easily between the world of imagination and the world of reality, one inspiring the other. I've tended to use my imagination to confront reality, rather than escape it. Maybe that's the secret."
Before much longer I envision the “Gail Boenning Cirque de Soleil Tour” coming to a neighborhood near, well, all of us. The fruit of living in these digital times. 🍓🍑
Feeling very analog these days... Maybe the net needs mending. 🤷🏽
You, Gail, on the other hand are stretching, spreading your wings. Not acrophobic in the least! Competing for the best plastic smile seems an odd undertaking. Finding and speaking our truth, while perhaps prickly, is what I saw in the podcast today with Ed Brenegar.
I don't paint as often as I did. But I've worked with oils, acrylics, and watercolor. It is a very relaxing and satisfying craft. The most recent painting I did was with acrylics and it's an ocean scene. I don't think it's that good but my sister likes it. Thank you for asking.
A black hummer in a whirl of color...
Perhaps not a black bird, but a negative, a shadow, a presence of absence in the clouds of chaos...? 🤔
Nope, doesn't explain where the eye came from. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love how it turned out! Crystal clear what it is but shrouded in the mystery of blackout... An Austin Kleonesque hummingbird! 😎
Black out poetry?
Oh… well, sure, if you want to just go with the *ACTUAL* explanation… 😁

Nope nope nope, don't confront reality, it overreacts and has a limited sense of humor! 🫣
Maybe "confront" is not the right word. How about "dance with" instead?
Here we go again! High wire; no net.

“When you’re smiling, when you’re smiling
The whole world smiles with you
When you’re laughing, when you’re laughing
The sun comes shining through!”
👏🏼🎉🥳
My growth is a bit of a paradox. 🤔 It has taken both individual and community effort!
Yes... I keep going... with a keen awareness of family, friends, and a higher power offering the encouragements (and trials 😱) that feed the journey.
Thank you Gary!
Thanks for being on my podcast. I enjoyed our conversation.
Likewise Ed!
Thanks for having me on. 😁
I love the water color painting.
Thank you Pennie. Do you paint? I find a sweet satisfaction in “dropping” colors onto a wet page and watching them merge.

We're often our own worst critics? I'm glad your sister shared her appreciation with you!
Yes that's true we are. Yes, I actually painted it for her since she likes the ocean so much.
