A note from LoveLetterist:

Carrying around the idea of incorporating tangible objects into my drawings, I picked a leaf while romping in the wild with Henny. I folded it...

Kinda looks like a purse, I thought, then snagged a stem to go with it.

The idea rested on studio's table for a day or two.

While rummaging through the pantry for dinner supplies, I came across a bag of lentils.

Hmmm...

Let me investigate...

I like it!

It was just the nudge I needed to draw a purse-toting penguin.

Do you think it's silly?

Me too!

Isn't that grand?

And that ability makes you a creationist, paintist, and, best of all, a LoveLetterist! Whee for Whimsy!🎉🎊

I am loving the mixed medium art you create, Gail. Your creativity shines. Silly is, indeed grand!

Thank you Karen!

I suspect photography is the best/only(?) way to digitize… more learning to do!

I haven't a clue. But the mix of paint, 3-D items, and photography is a winner!

The purse toting penguin is as cute as a button! Oops! A lentil bean. To clarify, does “this is brilliant” refer to the artist depicting a young girl, chomping some popcorn, while simultaneously thinking or daydreaming about a giant cup of popcorn about to tumble down on her head? Indeed, brilliant. Art imitates life.

I can’t claim Steinbeck’s experience with ideas, but growing up confirmed the rabbit variant of his remark. 🧐 I preferred the chickens - offering up lotsa eggs. Rabbits? Either dung pellets or offspring.

These days I’d gladly tackle the cleaning up of popcorn kernels...

Yes! I feel the popcorn hair is brilliant. So incredibly creative. Nudging me to up my game!!!

One of the most impactful stories I ever read about ideas is in Big Magic by Liz Gilbert. Are you familiar? She suggests ideas come knocking on our proverbial doors. We either welcome them in and serve them dinner... or ignore them. Ignore them long enough and they move on to somebody who is hopefully more receptive.

Another of those distant bells... Yet her name seems familiar. Is she a SubStacker?

Ureka! And played by Julia Roberts in the movie. This has Connectication written all over it. My prior reading revealed a comment by her that she finds the term “creative” objectionable. Preferring to call everyone “creative.” 🤷🏽 (this brings to mind Julie’s illustration accompanying her blog post this morning. Talent waiting to be awakened! This discovery, for me, set me thinking. 🙏🏽

I believe we are all creative. When we choose we create?

I had an inkling of “we are all creative” in my early days on Medium. Six odd years later I am confident we can be creative in millions of ways from parenting to cooking dinner to leading a business or painting a picture.

I suspect Big Magic was one of the places where I explored this life lesson.

I searched for Liz but found Elizabeth Gilbert. What I read about her seems she would be right at home in our discussions. I read, in her bio, that for 25 years she has written a love letter... to herself every morning on rising! She teaches this practice to young and old alike. Now I’ll check Eat, Pray, Love. Thanks for pointing to a Path With Heart!

I thought you might catch my sorta subtle hint at Jack Kornfield’s book, “A Path With Heart.” 😉
