A note from Love Letterist:

I saw a clip online.

It packed a punch that touched my awareness and experiment buttons.

A scientific study measured hormones levels in girls and their mothers in relation to their communication.

Texting raised stress hormones.

Telephone calls raised feel-good hormones.

I am aware that I rely heavily on digital communication.

It's fast and easy.

Last week I mailed a stack of books to Katie in Illinois.

I believe we both benefitted from the physical exchange.

Today I'll snail-mail the article about watchtower dude.

Sometimes the best thing to do with a scientific study...

is to try it for yourself?

You know that I constantly write out cards and letters to people. The actual act of mailing them makes my heart flutter. I keep my phone on vibrate only. I have FOCUS on my phone that is on daily from 9-5.

Yesterday I was waiting for a call from my son in Berlin for the first time since I don’t know when I turned my ringer on. It actually made me anxious and interrupted my thoughts all day. It’s back in the off position. He can call my Dads phone if he wants to talk to me. Xoxo

I have often considered the contradiction of creating digital content along with my recognition that our digital world appears to be an unhealthy binge of society.

I console my contradiction jitters with an awareness that I try to be… different? To model pause and thoughtfulness? To be respectful in my posts and comments? To allow room for others to use their own thinking abilities?

Sweet! Not a smartphone or laptop in sight, the sign of an analog day in my mind. Cursive or block letters for post cards? As a young’un there were occupied fire towers in our area of PA. And we could climb up for a visit, after calling out something like “permission to come aboard.” What a delight. Less than 100 feet above ground level. Today I think of the intrepid cell tower techs that ascend ≈ 1000 feet to change this or that. Don’t look down!

I like your rationale, LoveLetterist, for emphasizing what you strive for in your posts. And agree your messaging doesn’t hinge on digital trickeration to create your overall message du jour. Bursts of 10-second TicTok videos, en route to viral success, (flu, measles?), has now been shown to create endorphins addiction. True, roots in our souls, addictions.

As I contemplate the digital vs analog means of communicating, building violins is sounding better by the minute. A luthier!

Pow, Zap! (The sound of my brain gearing up to process your post today.) Did I just read that next on your life to-do list is to become a fire tower lookout and learn to make violins? Nothing would surprise me. 😁

Lots of other things… but not that… yet.

The idea of room made entirely of glass does appeal!

Just a heads up on that glass room: Energy efficient glass requires some tech points. For hot regions (me) the proper glass bounces Sun’s energy back to the outdoors to reduce the work of the A/C. For temperate regions (you) the proper glass reflects energy back into your home to manage heat loss. And overhead glass is required to be extra sturdy. Spandrel glass looks like there’s chicken wire in the glass, because it is! 😊 And the overhead location argues for an efficient type of glass. But one trade off is those high tech glass products reduce light levels in your living space. 50% or more! New mini-split heat pumps are wonderfully efficient and quiet while operating. Or painting. Or writing… You say little about surgery in the studio so I can assume there won’t be much in the glass cube! A radiant floor, using recirculated hot water from your water heater (or specially designed heating could), are the Cat’s pajamas! 😹

I like to look at tiny homes on Instagram. Some are in trees! I love the ones with lots of windows… bringing the outside in.

Because of the “tininess” of “tiny homes” a normal 70-100 Ton crane could lift such a home off a flatbed trailer and set it in place. With some advanced preparation to allow a level resting spot and securing to prevent wind uplift. Cables to ground anchors and not bolts through the tree that could compromise the tree’s health and lifespan. Consider an “always on” natural plus infrared video camera to share your view of Nature-backyard or mountains or adjacent water-for allowing an enviable look at small footprint living on Mother Earth. Not joking in the least! 😁 You could go “viral” without learning bonkers dances, purple wigs, and crazy fascial expressions. Unless that’s also part of the idea. 😉

Haha!

Some of the homes are built around the tree. There are living tree parts in the house!

Like Frank Lloyd Wright’s design featuring water flowing through the home. Pittsburgh area I think. The high humidity of the tumbling water by posed problems in the long term. Frank was so fanatical about his design ideas that he designed wallpaper, furniture with his designs for upholstery and all the rest! For you and your sense of community, folks from your connectications could help with design of your tree home. Think of brainstorming sessions. The positive energy. “This Is The House That Love Built.” Windows and doors with internal blinds to keep the look clean and unobtrusive. Wall art, a bookcase, low to the floor, with table lamps at either end for comfy reading chairs… Maybe. 😊
