Come as you were born…
“I can’t wait to get out on the open water!” Thalia was ready to hop in the shower. She’d already selected her sailing outfit and was over the moon that they’d been gifted free soap to prepare for their day on the water. “Nia? Can you bring the suds, exfoliating mitt, and timer? They really want us to look good. I wonder if there will be a photographer.”
Cal didn’t know if she wanted to laugh or cry — maybe a little bit of both was in order. “Look out the window Thalia. Yes… We heard springlike songs from birds on the morning walk, but our world is still covered in snow and ice.”
Urania’s annoyance vibrated with every step as she ascended to the second floor toting the functional germ killing supplies. “Just because we spent two hours yesterday listening to make-up tips, wig possibilities, fake eyebrow artistry, and the possibilities and perils of breast prosthetics doesn’t mean we’re sailing or going to the spa!”
Cal whispered, “We’re getting a port… not going to a port.”
Thalia whispered back, “Einstein said imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. You can get a port. I am going to a port.”
A word from Typist:
First… Paintist is patting herself on the back for today’s picture. We drew a shower!
Second… The nurse I talked to from day surgery is a gem. I hope she’s there to help take care of us today. Donna shared that she is a BC survivor, as are a number of other nurses who work where we will be treated. She promised I will be in good hands. She also shared that she’s worked for this medical system for 30 years and she chose to be treated there… if that tells you something.
Third… Donna reminded us of how much words and attitudes can ease frightening experiences. When she gave us the ‘no lotions, no food, no, no, no’ directions she capped them off with, “Come as you were born, but clothed.”
Isn’t that lovely?
