An early 70’s bumper sticker read: Life Takes Its Toll. Bring Change. It was aimed at we humans, not toll booths.
While we Old School Muses are eternal, we can see the necessity for humans to change. Not arbitrarily but thoughtfully. I suggest having a core group of supporters, like-minded individuals, of various ages. As humans age, the group will as well. Offer your wisdom. Accept their help.
Deb hates grocery store reorganizations. We keep a running grocery list in a shared Note, but before the actual grocery run she writes down (on paper, because we have a pile of note pads thanks to charity mailings) everything we need in order. And if somebody moved an item… 😡
We do 90% of our shopping together. It helps us get pre- and post-organized for the self-checkout. 😊
I have a very distinct path and if anybody tosses me an item that's not on the path, it's not likely coming home with me.
Unlike many, I do enjoy the grocery store. It's a place/activity where I can usually shut my mind chatter off -- actually sing/hum along with the oldies piped through the aisles. :)
Deb shares an online calendar (so we know what each other is doing) and a desk calendar (so she knows what SHE is doing).
I switched to whole grains as a substitute for rice and pastas, once I found what happens with my blood sugars. 😕 Riced cauliflower is also okay, on occasion.
I personally have a hard time with change. The grocery stores that I was driving anywhere from 45- to hour an a half away have raised their prices but the quality stinks
I made a vow this year to shop locally right here on Main Street America. Is it more expensive? No, it actually saves us money. I get the silver-haired discount Monday- Thursday from 9-11 am. It's 15%! I shop there knowing they are supporting local farms like our local dairy, beef and pork farmer and our local chicken farmer. Although I no longer partake in the meat dept Dad sure loves a good steak or chicken cutlets.
Here are the things I don't miss shopping locally - buying food that is no good for us or the last second on the aisle splurge because who knows when I will drive an hour away and get this stuff.
Having to plan my whole day around shopping.
Buying way more and then risk wasting the food.
Plus there is an app I use called Too Good To Go- this app allows me to purchase food that would otherwise be wasted like bread and milk that is going to might go past their sell-by date in a couple of days. I get a box of all kinds of food for $5.99 always at least a $18 value.
Try it in your area and see if you have places that participate. There's a bakery in Hunter that has unbelievable breads and cookies that gives you a bag and a box for $4.99 and they give you a $15 value.
Terps- I like the people in store they always give me a cup of coffee or good conversation while I shop. Bonus, the music is always good too.
I'm currently trying to keep up with the appetite of a young man -- which usually out runs my trips to the grocery. It was a different ball game when there were only two of us -- who have grown into mature (want to share this potato?) eaters. 😂
A note from LoveLetterist:
4th Muses -- How do you feel about change?

Thanks P.
I just read about Lewis Carrol’s Red Queen this morning. Perfectly placed in my awareness.

I've heard it said that God is change. 🤷🏻♀️
I've also heard it said that God is that which cannot be understood.
Life is funny, isn't it?
Life is indeed… AND Interesting too!

Is there a spreadsheet?

Deb is (mostly) analog; I’m the one who has the spreadsheet with times and amounts to cook seven dissimilar whole grains in one pot at one time.
I still keep a paper calendar. 📅
I just told Greg at lunch that I eat salad so that I can get my "grains" from pie crust and cake. 😂

Thanks for sharing all of that Sharon!

Terpsi -- I also like the grocery store music!
A master class in smart shopping. Thanks, Sharon.
Gail on this day 10 years ago... I shared this quote! some stories don't have
a clear beginning, middle,
and end. life is about not
knowing, having to change,
taking the moment and making
the best of it, without knowing
what's going to happen next.
delicious ambiguity...

Delicious ambiguity — an oxymoron asking to be embraced. 🤷♀️
