Deepak quote reminds me of K's use of the phrase "choice less awareness". Could it be the place of

joy or love where no choice or decision is necessary. Ie absence of choice?

Oui!

I’m still a work in progress. That said… within a few days of recognizing a holy hunger for a paddleboard, I ordered one. It comes today! 😎

I’ve also been employing heck yes/heck no while selecting what I read/watch/engage with… I no longer follow every suggestion. I can quickly discern whether I have energy to pursue. This too continues to be a learning process. It’s fun!

I have a sense that there is a place/space where the observed/observer intersect in the present moment. In a way time stands still. No choice, no becoming, no striving, maybe no energy direction, just now. Perhaps, it is a place where stimulus and response are simultaneous? Could it be the place were we are most directly connected to each other and the deity? Musings in Upstate NY on a Thursday afternoon.

Don’t know! 🤷‍♀️ And… you can bet I’m going to continue to do my best to stay present and tuned.

I have no idea where our thoughts originate. Two thoughts about “c” keep popping up and trying to pull me away from presence. One is dread for next Thursday’s chemo. The other is “what if” regarding pathology of what is surgically removed.

Each time they appear, I redirect myself to presence. Doing things… like writing 3mm help!

You got my attention with “neglected nectarines.”

Interesting choice of words… Very descriptive. Made me wonder whether a tangerine 🍊 would have the wherewithal to know it was neglected 🤔

You kept it with, “Thalia accidentally sprayed her friends with the hose. “Oops! How’d that happen? Is it time for lemonade?”

I love the quick “squirrel” transition to lemonade!

I’m currently Contemplating Deepak’s words…

I might be here awhile…

Marie? Marie? Is this light or heavy? Do I LOVE it?

Yes? I’ll consider keeping it. No? See ya, wouldn’t wanna be ya!

What did I miss? Hmmm 🤔

Oh yeah, response-ability and attitude… Yep!

Have you ever seen a nectarine left on the counter too long? The skin starts to shrivel and wrinkle. I try to follow the writerly advice of “show, don’t tell”.

Thalia as a squirrel. Ha!

Nectarines can be directly neglected; tangerines, tangentially. 🤪

Here I sit pondering which type of stain you are using. Transparent (let the grain really stand out)? Semi-transparent (sort of makes all the boards average)? Solid body (not too different from paint; don’t expect to see any grain)?

But with a Zoom, Zap, Swoosh the Muses have the work well in hand! Surprised? Me? No, I’ve been fascinated by the cooperation and orchestration of this operation for a while now.

Life is too short to stand around watching paint (stain) dry! Already scrutinizing new arrangements for furniture and plants I’ll bet. Crafting invitations for an upcoming “Come sit on the newly refinished deck and sip some cold beverages” summer gathering! Labor Day? Any day’s a good day.

The deck is twenty years old. Overtime we’ve transitioned from transparent to solid body. Next house… poured patio!

When we bought our house, the previous owners had covered the natural wood with brown paint. Which proceeded to peel within a couple years.

So we priced options, and a painter came out and said several of the decking boards would need to be replaced, but the posts and railings were good and he wouldn't touch them. (Could he take off the awful paint and stain them? Yes, he could, but no, he would NOT recommend it in good conscience.) And had we heard about using recycled plastic for decking? So we went with "wood" replacements and were very happy. (As were the baby groundhogs who used them to sharpen their new teeth.)

Then five years ago, when the posts started to go, we went with a four-season porch with a ceiling fan and HVAC. (Temporarily displacing the groundhog family that lived below the deck. No worries, they came back the year after the porch went in. ☹️) With the backyard temps in the 90s all week, we are happy with our choice. 😊

There’s gotta be a good t-shirt quip about the joys of home ownership — all of this adulting. 😏

In our wet, humid, hot, moldy climate, western cedar for deck boards might last 7 or 8 years!

T-shirt: “We wanted so badly to be adults. Now look at us.” 😁

I've had a number of conversations over the years with nieces & nephews (actual and virtual) about the whole adulting thing. Sometimes there's pride in accomplishing an "adult" thing; sometimes there's a "nobody told me adulting was this hard!" episode; sometimes we share a "screw it, I can be a kid again if I want" moment.
