The title to my upcoming workshop is "What Happens After What Comes Next?" In part it rests on the idea that we can't create a future that we can't imagine. Imagine that!

Reminds me of something I wrote a long time ago about life/reality… I said something like: I think we’re making it up as we go along. 🤷‍♀️

Was it Einstein who said imagination is more important than facts?

There are multi quotes on "imagination" attributed to Einstein. These reminded me of a couple of other "Imagination" quotes by another famous scientist, Mark Twain:

"You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.

Or.........

You can’t depend on your judgment when your imagination is out of focus."

Ooooh! I like the second version about judgement. I recently heard someone... Gabor Mate maybe?... say that we humans judge like we breathe... factory installed. The question (for me) is... can we (I) pause to be aware of and to invite imagination into those judgements?

If judging is factory installed can it be uninstalled? Imagine that? If judgment is acquired through conditioning might it be erased similarly? This exchange has brought me to the intersection between the words/concepts of "imagination" and "insight". I've been viewing imagination as springing from thought. Insight on the other hand it seemed to me comes from consciousness itself absent of thought. This is all provisional in my own thought process of sense making. If I accept my own categorizations can imagination as a product of thought be a gateway or open the path for insight? Or can insight expand the thought process for what could be imagined? Nevertheless both would be absent of judgement.

Well, as my friend, Susan Scott reminds "most conversations are with myself and occasionally they involve others. If you've come this far... I wish you gratefully a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Here is where we could likely go deep and long... Are their shades of judgement?

This always makes me think of those worksheets children are given: Circle the person who is tallest. Put an X on the one that's not an animal. Color the one that's (fill in the blank).

A function of our brains is to compare and contrast?

Now that is a very different form of judgement than say... I cannot associate with you because you are (insert label here)?

Hmmm... I too, see imagination originating from thought. Not sure where insight comes from... a subconscious conglomeration of past learnings? Guidance from the great mystery? I fully believe there is a higher hand guiding me and the muses... I could not come up with this stuff on my own! 😂

Is that insight?

I don't think that AI could ever write with the passion and feelings that many of us have. I understand the idea of making things easier but we will always need some human interaction.

Yes! The longer I live, the more I can see that relationships and the stories we tell ourselves build our realities.

Happy Thanksgiving friend! Thanks for playing magical math with me!

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well Gail.

I agree Pennie. There is too much nuance to the human psyche and too much unique-ness in each individual unique for a machine to capture it.

Sign: ”I can't wait to retire so I can get up at 6 o'clock in the morning and go drive around really slow and make everybody late for work” 😁

Speaking as an ACTUAL retiree, if I am up at 6AM it’s because I suddenly remembered I forgot to take the trash bin down to the curb the night before, and the trash truck just woke me up.

Ha! I can see you and Deb cruising at 5 below the speed limit and watching for facial expressions in the rearview mirror, 😂

Okay, kinda, yes, except in this area only 5 mph over the speed limit is the equivalent of 5 below in other areas…

AI may be able to write a story, but it will never be able to write MY story or your story or Gary's story. Let Thalia down easy, Gail. I know you will. You have much to be grateful for this year. Enjoy!!

This 3mm community member is fascinated by this thoughtful, creative stirring! I recently read that the cutting edge AI developers are feeling uneasy about what lies ahead. Already AI composes music (not Mary had a little lamb simplicity), writes stories (one of which won an award in competition with human writers), and plenty else I’m unaware of. Emotions? Points of view? That’s where it gets dicey.

When “code”, programming languages, first tinkered with robotics, there were assurances that human jobs would not be threatened. Remember the programmable tractors in use today? Not even an operator! More and more I read “news” articles that definitely were written by AI. Varying degrees of sophistication and odd phrasing and sentence structures. 🤷🏽 Maybe all the editors have retired?

So for now I appreciate the connections here. Even if it seems I’m becoming more grouchy by the day. 🤔 I’m quite satisfied with all the creativity here in 3mm: representational art forms & images of same; providing constructive “what abouts” to make us itch (haikus) and expand our horizons; demonstrating healthy ways of living/facing problems of varying magnitudes; and of course scripting/writing this string of love letters.

Let Tal know to not quit her day job too soon! 🙃 For that matter, I believe Nia and Cal will handle that diplomatically. Right now my reclining sofa is in use! All y’all have a fabu Thanksgiving!

To this author's eyes... I see no grouchiness! Just thoughtful, thought-provoking commentary.

Tal will be happy to gorge herself on pies and turkey over the weekend. She'll be itching to be back to work on Monday. 😀

And herein lies a “Framework” for success. Of course, you must define “success” for yourself because what’s success to one might actually be failure to another... Don’t chase someone else’s definition.

On FEAR... We can be afraid or we can choose to be excited instead. FEAR: Feeling Excited And Ready to Face Everything And Rise!
