“Can you believe… We have lived near Milwaukee since 1990 and never once before yesterday toured Pabst Mansion?” Calliope scrolls through photos she took of ornate woodcarvings, hand-painted tiles, and multilayered wall coverings.
“Seems to me that everything from the delicate china — to the brick core walls — to the elegantly framed paintings — everything — was created with quality, beauty, and durability in mind.” Nia’s skin tingles. “Craftsmen poured the best of themselves into their work.”
“The hooooooole day was so grand!” Bright pink floods Thalia’s cheeks. “The mansion — riding The Hop — a pasta flight! All shared with friends for a lifetime.”
LEARN
A feeling heart suffers pain.
STRIVE
Bread eaten with thankfulness inspires a joyful heart.
HONOR
Never have I found anything more priceless than a quiet and true heart.
WAIT
Never soft, never loud what a friend has told you in confidence.
Is this the Pabst of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer?
(Oh great, now I have the beer radio commercial form the 1960s stuck in my head... 😫)
Pabsts’ proverbs and words, oh my! The sights of the ceiling along with linked video harkens back to an architectural era that for the most part is forgotten. That we don’t design and build in this manner is our loss. If we did, perhaps new iterations aged just 20-30 years old wouldn’t be bulldozed as a matter of course. 🤷🏽
“Food photos frequently fail,” says the color-blind critic. When this food or that is to be featured in adds the folks and skill sets involved amaze me. “Food stylists,” putting this grape in the perfect spot. The perfect wineglass and perfect flatware. Lighting experts placing multiple light sources “just so” to enhance natural colors. Think red wavelength lighting over the beef at the supermarket. Premise: this viewer wasn’t in attendance, thus left lacking the array of tastes and smells attached to what the image displays and the photographer experienced. Bereft of those dimensions? Sorry to sound so critical. My first glance was...😳
But the words: LEARN, STRIVE, HONOR, WAIT, and the accompanying comments? The first three all contain “heart.” Captain Pabst’s proverbs?
Last, Acres of Diamonds? I can hear Cal referencing the entire experience using that phrase? Or...
Grateful for the entire tour. 🙏🏽
